OUR DREAM is a media brand dedicated to equalizing the cannabis space through education, community-building and advocacy.
In 2016, OUR DREAM founder Hilary L. Yu set out to launch a purpose-driven media site that offered real transparency—one focused on honest storytelling that highlighted innovators who have come up against relentless structural barriers as they strive to actualize their dreams. .
After four years spent consulting cannabis companies large and small, including pro bono consulting for social equity applicants and license holders in California — OUR DREAM saw first-hand how the deficiencies of cannabis legislation posed disproportional challenges for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ entrepreneurs. Motivated by a determination to advance equality of opportunity for fellow innovators who had historically contended with barriers to access, we made it our mission to create a more equitable cannabis industry. Employing a grassroots approach to empower marginalized groups in the cannabis space, our mission manifested in partnerships with community organizations and equity applicants to shape justice reform in cannabis legislation and steward the cannabis industry through community reinvestment programs and social equity workshops.
OUR ACADEMY is a non-profit precelerator that offers an ecosystem of resources designed to uplift and empower underrepresented founders across the US through digital workshops, evergreen courses, mentorship, and networking opportunities with conscious cannabis companies, ancillary service providers, investors, and social equity programs. Through a 15-week program, OUR ACADEMY facilitates digital workshops (aka zoom meetings) and one-on-one mentor/mentee relationships that allow for more specialized growth for equity applicants. All mentees are given access to curriculum and compliance regulation resources.
OUR ACADEMY OUR ACADEMY accepts tax-deductible donations as a sponsored project of SIMA Studios, a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization that supports creative projects that advance positive social change.
